Pack Shed Lead

Summary
Working closely with the Assistant Farm Manager, the Pack Shed lead manages crew and produce coming in from the field during and after harvest.  This person is responsible for all aspects of distribution to ensure that the farm’s products are of highest quality and orders are safely handled/packed.  This is last process in production before the end user receives our product, attention to detail and food safety is a must.  In addition, lead positions may include participation in other daily farm tasks such as, weeding, planting, washing, and selling at market.

Reports to: Assistant Farm manager and owner
Supervises: 4-6 crew members
Hours: February-November, 40 hours/week.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes tasks, and delegates jobs to crew
  • Neatly organizes pack lists on the whiteboard
  • Efficiently maintains, safety and cleanliness of produce and wash station
  • Responsible for quality of all produce leaving the farm
  • Maintaining a clean and organized pack shed
  • Works closely with Market Lead on product quality and packing strategies.
  • Creates and maintains inventory lists of produce in cold storage
  • Operates on-farm vehicles
  • Record keeping: Clearly, and in detail, records sanitizing dates, safety log, GAP compliance guided by FSMA.

Requirements

  • Food service experience
  • 1-year farming experience
  • Familiar with Food Modernization Act 2017/GAP
  • Organizational skills
