Greenhouse Lead

Summary           

A full time Position- working closely with the farm manager and the production schedule, the Greenhouse Lead cares for all plants that are grown in a greenhouse environment.  This person is responsible for growing new plants from seeds and tending them through watering, fertilizing, pest protection, while regulating internal conditions to ensure the plants have the best growing environment.  In addition, GH Lead will manage growth and harvest of the crops grown under poly production.  Other responsibilities include some administrative duties such as record keeping, directing crew members, and plant sales.  This position participates in other daily farm tasks such as weeding, planting, washing, and harvesting.

Reports to: Farm manager

Supervises: 1-3 crew members or P/T helpers

Starting Pay: $18

Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday- Friday, March – November

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Monitoring / Caring for all plants in controlled environments
  • Proper irrigation for crops
  • Moving, spacing, pruning, trellising and dividing plants
  • Mixing and applying organic fertilizers and organic sprays
  • Maintain efficiency, speed and quality of seedlings and transplants
  • Organizing and maintaining a clean work space
  • Maintaining infrastructure and edges of tunnels
  • Keeping accurate notes of tasks and time management using farm software
  • Using the tractor and walk behind tiller for planting prep and moving plants

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of vegetable production and greenhouse experience
  • Excellent communicator
  • Good problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Keen observation skills, able to see different colors of greens and plant variations
  • Some knowledge of insects and plant diseases
  • Ability to work with many personality types
  • Calm and positive can-do attitude
  • Must be able to stand/walk all day and be able to frequently lift up to 40lbs,
